Both teams are coming off their first victories of the season, with Shawnee Heights taking a 61-46 United Kansas Conference home decision over Piper and Topeka West taking a 74-62 UKC road win at Seaman. Q Stovall and Deacon Pomeroy paced Shawnee Heights with 12 points apiece against Piper while Jaret Sanchez added 11 points and Brennon Dodge nine. West senior Xavier Alexander scored a career-high 31 points with five 3-pointers in the Chargers' win at Seaman while Malachi Berg added 21 points and nine rebounds and Sincere Ausitin 10 points and seven rebounds. Friday's 7:15 p.m. game will be the first the first UKC matchup between the two longtime city rivals.

HAYDEN (1-0) vs. EMPORIA (2-0)

Both teams posted runnng-clock wins in Thursday's opening round of the Paul Terry Classic, with Hayden taking an 82-45 win over Wichita Trinity while Emporia rolled to a 70-41 victory over Spring Hill. Senior Joe Otting led Hayden with 11 points and freshman Ayden McGibboney added 10 points for the Wildcats, who had 12 players while connecting on 12 3-pointers as a team. Parker Leeds scored 13 points and Fred Jackson added 11 points for Emporia against Spring Hill. Tipoff is set for 8:15 p.m. Friday night.

SILVER LAKE (0-2, 0--0) at RILEY COUNTY (1-1, 0-0)

Silver Lake is coming off a 59-48 non-league loss to Council Grove on Tuesday while Riley County is coming off a 45-31 non-league loss to Concordia. Seniors Dylan Vande Velde and Ian Stichem led Silver Lake with 13 and eight points, respectively, against Council Grove as nine Eagles cracked the scoring column. Friday's contest will be the Mid-East League opener for the Eagles and the Falcons.

WASHBURN RURAL (1-1) vs. Shawnee Mision West-Lincoln Prep winner

At Shawnee Mission East Championship Showdown

Washburn Rural bounced back from a season-opening loss to St. James Academy with a 68-31 win over Kansas City-Schlagle Thursday in a consolation game of Shawnee Mission East's Championship Showdown, giving Alex Hutchins his first victory as Rural's coach. The Junior Blues will play for the consolation title (fifth place) at 5:30 p.m. Friday against the winner of Thursday's consolation game between Lincoln Prep, Mo. and Shawnee Mission West. 

ROSSVILLE (0-2) vs. SACRED HEART (2-0)

At Chapman Irish Classic

Rossville dropped a 65-54 decision to Kansas City-Bishop Ward in the opening round of the Chapman Irish Classic while Sacred Heart beat tournament host Chapman, 55-42. Freshman Jack Donavan led Rossville with 22 points against Ward, including three 3-pointers. Friday's game will be played at Chapman.
