Former Seaman and University of Kansas pitching star Ryan Zeferhahn was called up to the Major Leagues by the California Angels on Friday.

The 26-year-old Zeferjahn was an All-Stater in baseball and the city co-basketball player of the year as a senior for Seaman before playing three seasons at Kansas.

Zeferjahn was recently picked No. 48 on TopSports.news' list of the Top 100 Athletes in Shawnee County history.

Zeferjahn was a third-round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox after a standout career at KU and the right-hander was traded to the Angels organization in late July.

Zeferjahn was promoted from the Salt Lake Bees, the Angels' Triple-A affiliate, where he posted a 2.35 earned run average in 7.2 innings in five relief appearances.

Before being traded to the Angels, Zeferjahn spent time with Boston's Double A and Triple A affiliates this season.

Zeferjahn has compiled a 3.33 ERA in 46.0 innings pitched overall this season, recording 61 strikeouts with just 21 walks while opponents had a .201 batting average against him.

Zeferjahn was drafted in the 37th round by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2016 out of Seaman, but he opted to go to Kansas, where he pitched from 2017-19.

He had a career record of 17-12 with a 4.68 ERA in 47 appearances with 42 starts. Zeferjahn logged 221.0 innings pitched and struck out 260 batters at Kansas. His career strikeouts rank third in program history.

In his final season with the Jayhawks Zeferjahn went 5-2 with a 3.97 ERA and 107 strikeouts in 88.1 innings pitched and was named to the All-Big 12 first team.

Zeferjahn joined the Angels in Toronto, where they are playing this weekend.
