Teagan Tamiya, a redshirt freshman infielder for Washburn University, has never had it easy in baseball.
Tamiya stands at around 5-foot-5 and weighs in at 120 pounds, but luckily in the sport of baseball, there aren’t any height or weight restrictions.
Tamiya told TopSports.news that he's had some setbacks in his journey, but said, "Size does not limit your effort and passion for the game.”
Teagan Tamiya, who grew up in Hawaii, is a redshirt infielder for the Washburn University baseball team.
In high school Tamiya was a four-time letter winner with the Waiakea Warriors and during his freshman year at Washburn, Tamiya was named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
Teagan had left his home and family in Hawaii to embark on a collegiate baseball career here in Topeka, Kansas in 2021.
When asked about how difficult the transition was, he said: "The transition wasn’t difficult for me, I basically just threw myself in the situation, and the rest worked out.”
Tamiya got his feet wet this summer with the Topeka Golden Giants summer collegiate baseball club and developed his quick and powerful swing along with building on his defensive abilities.
Tamiya's solid season included a five-game hitting streak.
During the summer collegiate season, he suffered a hip pointer injury that had him on the outside looking in for over a month.
“During the summer, it was a minor setback but I’ve got back into it, and it’s feeling good,'' Tamiya said.
Baseball means the world to Tamiya and has his set of goals that he wants to carry for his entire collegiate career on and off the field at Washburn.
That included graduating with an entrepreneurship and marketing degree as well as being on the field with the Ichabods every year until he graduates.
The native Hawaiian is a grinder who will fight for quality at-bats, will not back down in the box, and will always be a reliable teammate.
Tamiya is definitely worth the price of admission.
