Washburn Rural's softball team ran its win streak to four games with Friday's 8-3, 15-4 non-league road doubleheader sweep over Olathe South, with the Junior Blues improving to 6-2 on the season.

Junior Naudia Wech sparked the Washburn Rural offense in the opener with a bases loaded triple while freshman Olivia Koch picked up the pitching win with a complete-game performance.

Junior Avery Rupp hit a grand slam in the second game, her first home run at the varsity level, while senior Makayla Ekis went the distance in the pitcher's circle for the victory.

Rural's sweep over Olathe South came on the heels of a 5-2, 10-1 Centennial League road sweep over Emporia.

Washburn Rural will be at home Tuesday to host Hayden (2-2) in a Centennial twinbill.

Seaman softball bounces back from first loss with win over city rival Topeka High

After suffering a heartbreaking 10-inning 5-4 loss to Eudora in its first game, Seaman's softball team bounced right back to take a 19-9 win over city rival Topeka High in Friday's triangular at Seaman.

With its second-game win the Vikings improved to 5-1 on the season.

Topeka High went 0-2 on the day, dropping a 13-7 decision to Eudora before the loss to Seaman.

Ismert, Sulzen-Watson pace Rural track in Olathe Invitational

Individual champions Rylee Ismert and Josh Sulzen-Watson led Washburn Rural in Friday's Olathe Invitational track and field meet at the Olathe District Activities Center.

Ismert, a junior, won the girls 1,600 meters in a time of 5 minutes, 12.51 seconds while Sulzen-Watson, a senior, won the boys javelin title with a throw of 167 feet, 6 inches.

The Junior Blues posted a second-place finish in the boys 4x800-meter relay (8:22.19) while senior Titan Osburn and junior Lafayette Thompson both jumped 20-5 in the long jump, finishing third and fourth.

Rural junior Payton Fink finished third in the girls 1,600 (5:14.90).

Seaman soccer rallies for 3-2 win over Cair Paravel

Coming off its first loss of the season on Thursday, Seaman's soccer team bounced back with a 3-2 win over Cair Paravel Latin on Saturday at Seaman.

The Vikings, now 4-1-1 on the season, trailed the Lions 2-1 with 16 minutes remaining in the first half before scoring the game's final two goals to pull out the victory.

Cair Paravel, which has played an extremely tough early-season schedule, fell to 3-3-1 on the season.

Rossville baseball pushes win streak to four games with sweep over Wabaunsee

Rossville's baseball team posted an 11-0, 9-2 Mid-East League road sweep over Wabaunsee Friday, improving to 4-2 overall and 4-0 in the league while running its winning streak to four games.

Rossville will be at home for a Mid-East doubleheader against rival Silver Lake on Monday. The Eagles are 3-2 on the season.

Bulldawg softball rolls to run-rule sweep over Wabaunsee

Defending Class 3A state champion Rossville improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-East League with a pair of 18-0 wins at Wabaunsee on Friday.

Rossville has a big twinbill coming up on Monday, hosting undefeated Silver Lake (6-0) in a Mid-East League showdown.
