Washburn University women's basketball will enjoy the warmer temperatures of Puerto Rico this week as the Ichabods compete in the Puerto Rico Clasico.

Washburn, 4-6 on the season, will play a 4 p.m. (CST) game Monday against the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras before taking on thee University of Ana G Mendez at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
Washburn has been off since taking an 83-53 loss against No. 7 Fort Hays State on the road on Dec. 7.
The December session of the Puerto Rico College Sports Tour will feature Emory and Henry College, Haskell Indian Reservation, University of Missouri-St. Louis, Anderson University, Ursuline Colleg, Morningside University, Spring Arbor University and the University of Rio Grande on the women's side.
Monday's WU meeting with Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras will be the secnd in team history while the contest against Ana G Mendez on Tuesday will be the first.
Junior Yibari Nwidadah leads Washburn with 17.3 points and 7.8 rebounds a game while shooting 70.2 percent from the field, but has missed the Ichabods' last two games while going through concussion protocol.
The Olathe North product has the best field goal percentage in the nation while ranking third in the MIAA in scoring and fifth in rebounding.
Junior Payton Sterk is averaging 17 points per game and leads WU with 2.7 assists per game and 26 3-pointers.

Boys and girls wrestlers from Highland Park, Topeka High and Topeka West and a girls team representing Washburn Rural combined to win 13 individual titles in Saturday's Melvin Douglas Invitational at Highland Park.
A split team from Washburn Rural won the title in the 13-school girls division by a 128-120 margin over host Highland Park while Topeka High finished a city-best third in the 17-school boys division.
Here's a rundown of both the boys and girls tournaments:

Rural girls edge host Scots for team championship
Washburn Rural's two-time defending Class 6A state-champion girls wrestling team posted a pair of team championships on Saturday in two different states, posting a win in the Melvin Douglas Invitational by a 128-120 margin over the host Scots and also winning the team title in the prestigious multi-state event in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Washburn Rural got individual titles in the Melvin Douglas tourney by Jordan Shatto at 125 pounds, Reece Garrett at 145 and Janiah Matthie-Johnson at 170 while Dixie Day (120), Hayden Hedstrom (135) and Leah MacPherson (155) posted runnerup finishes.
Shatto is 4-0 on the season while Garrett is 3-0 and Matthie-Johnson 4-0.
The Junior Blues posted top-four finishes in 10 of 14 weight divisions.
Runnerup Highland Park got championships from Kimberly Rodriguez at 105 pounds, Bethanie Kagle at 110, Connie Burns at 115 and Makayla Cadet at 190.
Rodriguez is 5-2 this season while Kagle is 4-0, Burns 7-0 and Cadet 8-1.
Topeka High finished fourth as a team, getting titles from Ingrid Cabrera at 100 pounds and Jenea Bratton at 140, while Topeka West got a win from Monica Stewart at 235.
Cabrera is now 6-2 while Bratton is 6-2 and Stewart is 4-2.
Champions Stiner, Davis power High boys to third-place finish
Topeka High's boys scored 147 points on Saturday, finishing just 10 points behind Summit Christian Academy, Mo. for second while Gardner-Edgerton won the team title with 220.5 points.

The Trojans got individual titles from Jordan Stiner at 157 pounds and Nick Davis at 165 while Topeka High posted top-four finishes in seven of 14 weight classes.
Davis is now 11-0 on the season while Stiner is 9-2.

Highland Park finished seventh as a team, getting an individual title from senior 175-pounder Adrian Burney, who is 5-1 on the season.

Hayden's girls basketball team wrapped up a perfect week in the Paul Terry Classic in Emporia on Saturday with a 54-13 romp past the host Spartans.

Hayden, ranked No. 3 in Class 4A by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, took control of Saturday's contest from the outset, opening up a 15-2 first-quarter advantage.
The 3-0 Wildcats followed that up with a 20-3 second quarter for a 35-5 halftime cushion and outscored Emporia 19-8 in the second half, which included a running clock in the fourth quarter.
Senior Millie Ramsey led Hayden with 16 points, backed by senior Brylee Meier with 11 points and freshman Hailey Schmidtlein with 10.
Hayden will return to action on Friday, hosting Wichita Independent.
Spartans pull away late for 60-44 win over Wildcat boys
Hayden's boys were within striking distance of Emporia entering the fourth quarter before the host Spartans took control over the final eight minutes for a 60-44 win on Saturday in the final day of the Paul Terry Classic.
Emporia led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter and held a 27-23 advantage at halftime and a 44-39 lead into the fourth stanza before outscoring the Wildcats 16-5 down the stretch.
Hayden, now 2-2 on the season, was led by James Kuta with 12 points while Kade Mitchell and Cooper Zwiesler added 8 points each and Mason Becker had 7.
Hayden will return to action on Friday, hosting Wichita Independent.

Rossville girls take Fighting Irish Classic title with 40-point win
Rossville finished off the week with a 65-25 Saturday win at Chapman, winning the championship in the Fighting Irish Classic.
Junior Rylee Dick scored 25 points with four 3-pointers to lead the Bulldawgs while sophomore Nora Burdiek added 16 points and senior Shyanne Haehn 12. Junior Maggie Sanders narrowly missed double figures with 9 points.
Burdiek was named the tournament Most Valuable Player after averaging 20 points and 13 rebounds on the week while Dick and Haehn were named to the all-tournament team.
Dick averaged 25 points and five assists in the tournament while Haehn averaged 8 points and 8 rebounds.
Rossville, ranked No. 6 in Class 2A, will return to action Tuesday, hosting rival Silver Lake.

Highland Park's boys basketball team, No. 2-ranked in Class 5A, topped city rival Washburn Rural 65-49 Friday night to capture the championship in the Shawnee Mission East Championship Showdown.

Senior Ja'Corey Robinson led three double-figure scorers for Highland Park with 19 points, backed by seniors Da'mykel Hales and Mikey Williams with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Highland Park improved to 3-0 on the season while dropping Washburn Rural to 3-1.
The Scots will play their home-opener next Friday against Kansas City-Wyandotte in a Meadowlark Conference clash while Washburn Rural will play a road game at Barstow on Friday.
CPLS's Jaley Barkley picks up first coaching victory
Former Cair Paravel Latin girls basketball standout Jaley Barkley notched her first coaching victory on Friday, with Barkley's Lions taking a 44-37 win over Northland Christian, Mo.
The 1-4 Lions trailed 18-11 at the end of the first quarter before forging a 20-all tie at the half.
The game was still deadlocked at the start of the fourth quarter (31-all) before the Lions pulled out the victory with a 13-6 scoring margin over the final eight minutes.
Eriana Donaldson led CPLS with 14 points while Karsyn Hastert added 13 points and London Beckman 12.
Lions improve to 3-2 with 60-50 win over Northland
Cair Paravel Latin's boys climbed above .500 at 3-2 on the season on Friday with its second double-digit win of the week, 60-50 over Northland Christian, Mo.
Coming off 54-36 win over Lyndon earlier in the week, the Lions got 14 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals from senior Jase Pavlik while senior Ben Roeder added 13 points.
Drew Fay added nine points and Chase Hastert and Blaine Durbin eight apiece for CPLS.
Northland led 16-13 at the end of the opening quarter, but the Lions used a 19-10 second quarter to take a 32-26 halftime advantage.
Northland cut its deficit to one point at 42-41 at the start of the fourth quarter before CPLS used an 18-9 fourth quarter to pull away down the stretch.
Hayden girls roll past Spring Hill, 59-36
No. 3-ranked (Class 4A) Hayden posted its second straight win in the Paul Terry Classic Friday at Emporia, rolling to a 59-36 win over Spring Hill.
Senior Millie Ramsey and freshman Hailey Schmidtlein scored 13 points each to lead the Wildcats, who also got 11 points from senior Brylee Meier.
Wildcat boys pick up second straight win
Hayden's boys recorded their second straight Paul Terry Classic victory on Friday, taking a 56-46 win over Spring Hill.
With the win the Wildcats improved to 2-1 on the season.
Rossville girls top Sacred Heart, 57-50
Junior Rylee Dick and sophomore Nora Burdiek combined for 45 points Friday as Rossville topped Sacred Heart 57-50 in the second round of the Chapman Irish Classic.
Dick scored 25 points with six 3-pointers while Burdiek added 20 points for the Bulldawgs, ranked No. 6 in Class 2A.
Centralia snaps 28-game Silver Lake win streak, 68-58
Centralia handed Silver Lake's girls their first loss since 2023 on Friday, with the Panthers taking a 68-58 win to end the Eagles' 28-game winning streak.

Seaman's boys started Friday night's United Kansas Conference game at Topeka West short-handed and things got worse for the Vikings when No. 8-ranked Topeka West took a nine-point lead midway through the second quarter.

But a 13-0 run to end the first half reversed the Vikings' fortunes, with Seaman never trailing again and surviving a late West rally to take a 60-57 United Kansas Conference decision over the Chargers at West.

Seaman, which played without key injured reserves Matthew McConnaughey and Axton Brewer, got a game-high 17 points from junior KaeVon Bonner, 13 from senior Bryer Finley and 11 points from senior Dalton Smith while junior Landon Wiltz and junior Griffin Zuniga added 8 and 7 points, respectively.
"We were a little short on the bench, but the other guys just held it together enough to get it done,'' Seaman coach Craig Cox said. "It's always going to be difficult against a team like Topeka West that's going to be a active as they are with their length and athleticism.
"We had a lot of turnovers and we forced some shots, but we overcame that and we can build off of that as we move forward.''
