Top-ranked Washburn Rural edged No. 2 Manhattan for the team championship in the Class 6A boys wrestling regional at Wichita North Saturday, with the Junior Blues claiming five individual titles while qualifying 10 wrestlers for this weeks state tournament at Hartman Arena in Park City.

Washburn Rural, which took a 243-234 win over Manhattan in the regional team race, got regional titles from 132-pound junior Easton Broxterman (45-1), sophomore 138-pounder Landen Kocher-Munoz (33-4), freshman 144-pounder Brodye Kocher-Munoz (36-12), junior 150-pounder Kristjan Marshall (35-4) and senior 157-pounder Brody Bryne (33-3).

Broxterman, a returning state champion, earned a medical forfeit over Vicent Rosas of Maize in the championship match while returning state champ L. Kocher-Munoz took a 10-8 decision over Daniel Gomez of Maize, B. Kocher-Munoz took a 2-1 decision over Manhattan's Logan Lagerman, Marshall took a 4-2 overtime decision over Grayson Hagen of Free State and Byrne pinned Free State's Gabe Swoyer in 59 seconds.

Sophomore 126-pounder Cooper Stivers (9-2) and senior 165-pounder Chase Calhoon (25-13) also advanced to regional championship matches, finishing second.

The Junior Blues got fourth-place finishes from sophomore 106-pounder Ryder Harrison (43-12), junior 120-pounder Walker Doyal (26-21) and 175-pound freshman Jadyn Baum (29-18)

Topeka High finished 12th as a team with 50 points and qualified junior 150-pounder Rehabiah Williamson (38-9), who finished sixth, senior 120-pounder Elijah Elliot (17-13), who finished seventh, sophomore 157-pounder Brandon Blancas (18-12), who placed eighth, and junior 215-pounder Detrick Johnson (23-12), who took eighth.

The 6A state tournament will be contested Thursday through Saturday at Park City's Hartman Arena.

Vikings qualify four for 5A state

Senior 215-pounder Hunter Reno (40-10) led Seaman with a third-place regional finish in the Class 5A tournament at Arkansas City while junior 165-pounder Samson Tootle (33-16) placed fourth, senior 144-pounder Colin Little (37-10) finished sixth and junior 157-pounder Gabe Brannick (36-17) placed eighth.

Seaman finished 14th as a team with 59 points.

The 5A state tournament will be held Thursday through Saturday at Hartman Arena in Park City.

Carver, Bonebrake lead Heights regional performance

Shawnee Heights senior Rykan Carver claimed a Class 5A regional championship to lead six T-Bird state qualifiers out of the Pittsburg regional.

Carver, 34-8 on the season, took a 2-1 overtime decision over Blue Valley Southwest's Benjamin Traw in the regional final.

The T-Birds also got a big regional performance from senior Andrew Bonebrake (31-6), who recorded his 100th career pin in the tournament advanced to the 138-pound championship match, finishing second, while senior 175-pounder Allen Baughman (29-7) finished third.

Sophomore 157-pounder Evan Johnson (28-13) posted a fourth-place finish while freshman 126-pounder Brody Brown (21-16) finished sixth and freshman 113-pounder Jacob Reyes (7-19) finished seventh as Shawnee Heights finished seventh as a team.

Highland Park junior 175-pounder Adrian Burney (17-8) punched his ticket to state with a sixth-place regional finish.

The 5A state tournament will be held Thursday through Saturday at Hartman Arena in Park City.

Eagles, Wildcats combine for eight Class 4A state qualifiers

Silver Lake and Hayden combined to earn eight Class 4A state berths out of the Tonganoxie regional, led by 157-pound regional champion Blake Redmond of Silver Lake.

Redmond (32-9) earned his regional title with a 5-1 decision over Ottawa's Dalton Evans.

Silver Lake got third-place finishes from sophomore 106-pounder Bryce Cormier (31-9), 126-pound  sophomore Garrett Holmes (32-11) and junior 150-pounder Trent Harris (31-15) and a fourth-place finish from sophomore 132-pounder Zach Rodenbaugh (17-10)

Hayden 144-pound freshman Caleb Menke (31-3) advanced to the 144-pound final before losing by pin to Tonganoxie senior Braeden Moore while Wildcat sophomore 165-pounder Jude Krentz (27-3) finished third and junior 175-pounder Broderick Desch (21-11) placed fourth.

Silver Lake finished fifth as a team with 108 points while Hayden placed eighth as a team with 51 points.

The 4A state tourney will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Tony's Pizza Events Center in Salina.

Bulldawgs' Lietz, Lions' Waldy punch tickets to 3A-1A state tournament

Rossville senior Barrett Lietz (33-8) advanced to the 215-pound final in the Rossville Class 3A-1A regional, finishing second, while Cair Paravel sophomore 150-pounder Jacob Waldy (25-9) earned a 3A-1A state berth with a fourth-place regional finish.

Lietz dropped a 16-8 major decision to Atchison County senior Vincent Webb in the championship match.

Rossville finished 11th as a team with 40 points while Cair Paravel finished 19th with 13 points.

The 4A state tourney will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Tony's Pizza Events Center in Salina.
