Shawnee Heights junior standout Jaret Sanchez scored 32 points to lead the way as the T-Bird boys basketball team ran its winning streak to seven games with an 80-51 romp past Ozark, Mo. in the second round of the Shawnee Mission West Invitational Thursday.

Sanchez's big night came after he missed the T-Birds' previous game, a win over tournament host SM West, with a slight ankle injury.

Senior Brennon Dodge added 15 points for the 7-2 T-Birds while junior Deacon Pomeroy and sophomore Ontarius Emmot added 10 points apiece for Shawnee Heights.

The T-Birds will be off Friday night before playing for the tournament championship on Saturday against the winner of the semifinal game between Blue Valley North and Olathe West.

CAIR PARAVEL BOYS TAKE 65-52 WIN AT McLOUTH

Cair Paravel Latin's boys, the No. 4 seed, evened their record at 5-5 with a 65-52 win over tournament host McLouth in the McLouth Invitational Thursday night.

The Lions led most of the game en route to the double-digit win.

CPLS GIRLS HOLD OFF MARANTHA FOR UPSET, 44-35

The sixth-seeded Cair Paravel Latin girls, the No. 6 seed, improved to 2-6 on the season with a 44-35 upset win over Maranatha Academy, which entered the McLouth Invitational as the No. 3 seed, on Thursday.

CPLS led for most of the game before surviving a Maranatha Academy rally in the fourth quarter.

SILVER LAKE GIRLS ROLL PAST SABETHA

The top-ranked (Class 3A) Silver Lake girls remained undefeated on the season with a 69-17 romp past Sabetha in Thursday's Burlington Invitational.

The Eagles will face Independence at 6:40 p.m. Friday in a tournament semifinal.

RURAL BOYS FALL TO OWASSO

Washburn Rural's boys opened its tournament bid in the Bill Hanson Invitational at Pittsburg with an 86-37 loss to highly-regarded Owasso, Okla. on Thursday.

Rural, now 2-7, will play a consolation game on Friday before closing out is tournament appearance on Saturday.

BLUE VALLEY TOPS SEAMAN BOYS

Blue Valley topped Seaman's boys 54-45 in Thursday's first-round game in the McPherson Invitational.

Seaman will play a consolation game on Friday before closing out is tournament appearance on Saturday.
