Hayden's girls basketball team wrapped up the championship in the Paul Terry Classic with a 57-35 win over Wichita Trinity on Saturday at Emporia's White Auditorium.

The Wildcats, who are ranked No. 2 in Class 3A by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, improved to 4-0 on the season with Saturday's victory, their third tournament victory in as many days.

Junior Brylee Meier scored 29 points with four 3-pointers to power Hayden past Trinity.

Hayden opened the tournament with a 48-30 win over Spring Hill on Thursday before knocking off tournament host Emporia, ranked No. 6 in 5A on Friday, 50-45.

Meier scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in Friday's win over Centennial League rival Emporia while junior Kaliya Fulton added 12 points.

Hayden will play a road game Friday against Kansas City-Bishop Ward.

ROSSVILLE GIRLS 83, CHAPMAN 40

Rossville's girls wrapped up the championship in the Irish Classic with an 83-40 romp past tournament host Chapman on Saturday.

The 4-0 Bulldawgs got 25 points from freshman Nora Burdiek, 23 from sophomore Rylee Dick and 14 from senior Emma Mitchell in Saturday's win over Chapman.

Dick was named the tournament most valuable player while Burdiek and Mitchell joined her on the all-tournament team.

On Friday, Rossville, which is ranked No. 7 in 3A by the KBCA, took a 60-45 win over Salina Sacred Heart.

Dick led the Bulldawgs with 16 points while Mitchell had 13 points and Burdiek 12. 

Rossville will travel to Kansas City Christian on Tuesday.

HAYDEN BOYS 66, SPRING HILL 47

Hayden notched its second win in the Paul Terry Classic Saturday at Emporia's White Auditorium, rolling to a 66-47 win over Spring Hill.

Senior Cooper Colboch finished off a big tournament performance with 23 points and five 3-pointers against Spring Hill while junior Jacob Deister and sophomore Connor Hanika added nine points apiece and freshman Mason Becker scored eight points.

The 2-1 Wildcats built a 19-12 lead over the Broncos at the end of the first quarter and took a 35-27 advantage to the locker room at halftime.

Hayden put the game away with an 18-6 third quarter, taking a 53-33 lead into the fourth period.

The Wildcats bounced back from a 50-44 Friday night loss to tournament champion Emporia.

The Emporia-Hayden game was close throughout, with a 13-all tie at the end of the first quarter before the Spartans led 28-24 at the half and 35-34 at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Seniors Dom Ridley and Carter Charvat scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Hayden against Emporia.

Hayden will play a road game Friday against Kansas City-Bishop Ward.

CAIR PARAVEL LATIN GIRLS 53, NORTHLAND CHRISTIAN 36

Cair Paravel Latin picked up its first victory of the season Friday against Northland Christian, romping to a 53-36 win as freshman Becca Gateley and Karsyn Hastert combined for 28 points.

Gateley led the Lions with 15 points while Hastert added 13 points.

Sophomore Kelly Ann Chada chipped in seven points for the Lions.

CPLS will return to action after the holiday break.

SILVER LAKE GIRLS 50, RILEY COUNTY 34

Silver Lake, top-ranked in Class 3A, kept rolling Friday night, taking a 50-34 win over Riley County.

The Eagles are now 3-0 on the season.

Silver Lake will be at home on Friday to host St. Marys.

NORTHLAND CHRISTIAN BOYS 68, CAIR PARAVEL LATIN 67 (OT)

Cair Paravel Latin suffered a heartbreaking 68-67 overtime defeat to Northland Christian on Friday.

Northland Christian scored with 1.6 seconds remaining in regulation to force the overtime and were able to take the one-point win in the extra session.

CPLS will return to action after the Christmas break.

CHAPMAN BOYS 62, ROSSVILLE 53

Rossville's boys completed the Irish Classic with a 1-2 record, dropping a 62-53 decision to tournament host Chapman on Saturday.

The Bulldawgs opened the tournament with a 56-48 win over Kansas City-Bishop Ward on Tuesday at Rossville before dropping a 65-49 decision to Salina Sacred Heart on Friday.

Rossville sophomore Jack Donovan and junior Tayson Horak were named to the Irish Classic All-Tournament Team.

Rossville will travel to Kansas City Christian on Tuesday. 

FREE STATE BOYS 42, WASHBURN RURAL 33

Free State, coached by former Hayden coach Dwayne Paul, took a 42-33 win over Washburn Rural in Friday's final day of the Shawnee Mission East tournament.

The Junior Blues fell to 0-3 with Friday's loss, but all three losses were by single-digits.

Rural dropped a 65-59 overtime decision to St. James Academy in the first round of the tournament before falling to tournament host Shawnee Mission East in the second round, 55-50.
